Gardaí Meet Iggy and Local Tyrrelstown Residents October 2008

As residents are only too aware we have been for a long time now, attempting to have serious issues in relation to Anti-Social Behavior and Road Safety issues addressed. We have had to continually put up with excuse after excuse from those with the authority to allay these concerns and remedy the situation pass responsibility back and forth while time goes by and our situation as residents here are in essence ignored.

Even to the extent that my many attempts to convene a meeting locally and on-site in Tyrrellstown with the local Garda Superintendent were thwarted by key policy makers (not within the Gardaí) refusals to attend; so as I could show them first hand the situation we and our children have been enduring for many years.

Well now at last there is positive news to report; on Wednesday 14th October 2008, a delegation namely: Chief Superintendent John Twomey accompanied by Superintendent John Hannett, met me and other Tyrrellstown residents and they accompanied us on a tour of the estate in order to see first hand the situation.

In particular we brought their attention to :
The Boulevard and the dangerous situation of traffic volume - type – frequency to mention a few and with particular emphasis on the total lack of safe pedestrian crossings and inadequate traffic calming measures and signage in such a confined network...
The ridiculous situation caused by Buses (when they stop everything stops) as well as the positioning of the bus stops…

The School location and the totally substandard road facilities i.e. lack of a permanent pedestrian crossing (lights) and signage given the volume/type of vehicle traffic…

These are just some (priority) of the issues conveyed, and which in all fairness, Chief Superintended John Twomey and Superintendent John Hannett immediately concurred were issues of concern from a safety viewpoint and they committed to take our concerns and they’re observations and recommendations to the relevant local authority department from whom they will be seeking a Road Safety Audit.

On your behalf I would like to thank the Gardai mentioned for their genuine concern, time, advice and interest in the welfare of our community. Please feel free to contact me to discuss any issues that may be causing you concern.
